Hope Town

Yesterday was a long one…. I drove an hour to Little Harbour (that’s where I will be living, starting January 2nd).  It was a beautiful day, a bit cool but not a cloud in the sky, and not cool like at home.  My friend Susan and another girl from Chicago and I, hopped on Susan’s boat and heading to Hope Town.  It is ten miles away by boat from Little Harbour.  The swells were massive, when we had the shelter of the Islands it was quite calm but going by the passes, I got soaked.  The waves crashing over the bow and I was sitting in front.

Out 1st stop was Lubber’s Cay, where Susan visited a friend.  Then on to Hope Town.  There is an amazing light house there.  Red and White Striped.  We spent the day walking (at least 5 miles), just checking out the town.  It was beautiful.  Our final destination was “On De Beach”, a little restaurant on the ocean side, where we could watch the surfers… amazing.  Luckily we got a ride back into town, walked a little more, hit the grocery store, then because the weather seemed to be turning, we started back.  I had on full rain gear, fleece and long sleeve shirt…. Soaked once again.  But, no worries!  That is just part of boating… it was awesome!

I hopped in my KIA and drove the 50 miles and made it back before dark to feed Harry and Bruno.  Great Day!  I think I will stay put the next couple of days.

Sandy Point

I woke up this morning to get my marching orders for house and dog sitting.  Diane and Charlotte left around 9:00 am.  I spent a lot of the day working, trying to catch up on some things back in “J” town, answering emails and putting out fires.  I took time to walk into town, walk the dogs down the beach and later, ride the bike to the local store.  Basically, just trying to get my bearings.

I am up way past my bed time.  Bruno is resting quietly but Harry, the young lab mix, took his sweet time finding his way home.  Just like a kid!  LOL!

Long Day of Travel

Yesterday I was up at 3:30 am and headed to airport by 4:30 am, three connections, which were quite tight.  I arrived in Marsh Harbour Airport at 1:35 pm and was greeted by my friend Susan.  We we to eat lunch, after dropping my bags off at the Iggy Biggy (local store, Island version of the Pinecone… kinda sorta).  Then we went to Snappa’s and waited for another friend, Laine.

My personal taxi driver picked me up at the Iggy Biggy at 5:00, ran a few errands and I picked up a local phone, then we headed the 50 miles to Sandy Point, where I will be house and dog sitting until the 2nd.  Diane and Charlotte had my dinner waiting, pasta and salad.  Check them out at www.bahamaswhales.org , they are doing amazing things. My dogs are “Bruno” and “Harry”, I have the tough job of walking them down the beach each day.  Hope I can handle it.

Tomorrow I will be traveling by boat to Hope Town from Little Harbour with a friend, should be fun.  I have several invitations for Christmas and New Years, so no worries there.

There was an eclipse of the full moon

Today I will get settled in here, get a little work done and keep updating with other information as I go on.
